Penelope Wilton is a British actress who has worked extensively in film, television, and theater.

 She is best known for her roles as Isobel Crawley in Downton Abbey, Mrs. Bennet in Pride and Prejudice, and Anne Boleyn in The Other Boleyn Girl.

Wilton has won numerous awards for her acting, including two Golden Globes, a BAFTA, and a Tony Award.

She was born in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England, in 1946.

She studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).

She made her professional acting debut in 1969 in the play The Homecoming.

She has appeared in many films, including Shakespeare in Love, Match Point, and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

She has also appeared in many television shows, including Blackadder, Doctor Who, and Cranford.

Wilton is a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).

She is married to actor Richard Beckinsale.
